This painting emerged from a time of endings, change, and new beginnings.
I began this work in California during a period of transition. What started as part of a larger commission eventually took on a life of its own, traveling with me across the country to North Carolina. As I continued working, the imagery evolved into a meditation on landscape, transformation, and the spaces between moments of change.
I’ve been thinking deeply about shan shui, the Chinese tradition of landscape painting—mountains and water, stillness and movement, permanence and impermanence. Those ideas found their way into this piece through layered textures, organic forms, and a landscape that feels both familiar and imagined.
The work reflects my own process of letting go, beginning again, and finding beauty in what emerges from uncertainty.
